Description of the attraction

The Moscow Archeology Museum opened in 1997. Its exposition is located in a pavilion, seven meters underground. The young museum is located very close to Red Square and the Historical Museum. Such an interesting location of the museum is explained by the large-scale archaeological excavations that were carried out in this area from 1993 to 1997. During the reconstruction of Manezhnaya Square, the original underground pavilion appeared.

The basis of the museum's exposition is made up of parts of the Resurrection Bridge, erected over the Neglinka River in the 16-17 centuries. The remains of this bridge were discovered during archaeological work by employees of the Center for Archaeological Research in Moscow. At a depth of 6-8 meters, in the cultural layers of the 18th-19th centuries, archaeologists discovered coins made of copper and silver, children's toys, tiles from stoves, various weapons and household items.

Archaeologists have found and uncovered the foundations of stone buildings dating back to the 18-19 centuries, identified the pavements that were paved with cobblestone or wood at that time, found the remains of well log cabins and many other structures. Traces of various handicraft industries were also identified. Thanks to these excavations, it became possible to reconstruct the development plan of this area in the Middle Ages.

In the exposition of the museum, you can see many interesting exhibits. First of all, the model of the Resurrection Bridge is interesting, in which all its details are recreated. Here are artistically executed models of the Kremlin and Kitay-Gorod, as they were in the second half of the 17th century.

The most interesting exposition of the museum is dedicated to ancient treasures.
