Description of the attraction

The Generalife is a historic complex that includes gardens and a palace and is one of the main attractions of Granada. The Generalife is located on the slopes of the Sierro del Sol and, together with the Alhambra and Albaycín, located nearby, is the most ancient part of the city and the main heritage of Moorish culture in the Spanish lands.

The Generalife was once the seat of Arab rulers from the Nasrid dynasty, who ruled Granada from the 13th to the 14th century.

The Generalife is a truly magical place, mesmerizing with its beauty, captivating with greenery and coolness. The terraced garden complex is accessed by two patios. One of them leads to the main part of the complex - the Asekiya Courtyard (the courtyard of the canal), which is the symbol of the Generalife. Along the entire length of the Courtyard there is a beautiful Royal Canal, which provided water supply to the territory of the Generalife and the Alhambra. From both sides of the canal, streams of fountains gush, creating a play of water and light. In the Asekiya Yard, there are an abundance of boxwoods, orange and myrtle trees, roses, carnations, laurels, cypresses.

Passing through the courtyard of Asekiya, we find ourselves in a small portico, through which you can go to the Royal Hall, decorated with stucco moldings of clay. The hall connects with two Renaissance galleries.

The Generalife gardens amaze with their compositional harmony, amazing layout, an atmosphere of privacy, grandeur, a sense of touching the past. This amazing corner boggles the imagination of everyone who comes here.

In 1984, the Generalife complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

An amazing slice of the East in Spain A piece of the East in Europe and all this surrounded by cypress alleys, orange trees, flowering flower beds and rhododendron against the backdrop of mountain peaks covered with eternal snow and a bright blue sky - amazingly beautiful!
