Description of the attraction

Piva Lake is an artificially created reservoir, which is the largest freshwater reservoir in all of Europe. The reservoir was formed due to the construction of a dam, during which the canyon of the Piva River was blocked. Despite the fact that the lake was created by human hands, it not only fits into the environment, but it is also very difficult to visually distinguish it from a real natural reservoir.

It is located in the north of Montenegro, not far from the lake - the canyon of the Komarnitsa River and the Piva Mountains. The lake is 46 kilometers long, with a maximum depth of 220 meters. The lake is inhabited by trout, the water is usually azure. Almost the whole year, the water in the lake does not warm more than 22 degrees Celsius, which may happen towards the end of summer.

After this artificial reservoir appeared, it flooded the old Pluzines. In addition, the Montenegrins were forced to move the Piva Monastery, another attraction of this area.

The Mratine Piva Dam is the largest in Europe, its width: 30 meters at the base and 4.5 meters at the top. The height of the dam is 220 meters.

Excursions to the lake start from Budva and then pass through Podgorica and Niksic. The cruise also includes a tour of the Jatlu Bridge and takes the route to the Komarnitsa River. It is noteworthy that the canyon of this river was developed only in the 60s of the last century.
