Description of the attraction

Table Mountain is the most attractive and photographed attraction in the country. Its flat top reaches 1086 m above sea level. This mountain attracts millions of people to its summit. However, the path to its top has never been easy and for many centuries only a handful of brave and determined people could say that they conquered it.

In 1912, Cape Town City Council commissioned engineers to investigate the possibility of using various public transportation options for easy access to the summit of Table Mountain. The choice fell on the construction of the cable car, which began its work on October 4, 1929 and since then, during its almost century-old history, has been renewed only three times, the last time in October 1997.

More than 2,200 plant species grow on the slopes and at the foot of Table Mountain, most of which are endemic to the area.

The magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, which is located at the eastern foot of the mountain, founded in 1913, covers an area of 528 hectares, including a unique winter garden with plants brought from around the world.

The local fauna is even more impressive. Here you can see baboons, lions, zebras and mountain leopards, which live only in this area. At the foot of the mountain, penguins gather on boulders, and not far away you can see importantly walking ostriches.

This mountain hides many more surprises that are waiting to be discovered.
