Description of the attraction

The cascade staircase is one of the main attractions of the resort town of Zheleznovodsk. The famous staircase descends from the platform with the color-musical fountain at the Smirnovsky spring towards the decorative lake. Water flows down its steps and ledges. The staircase is decorated with sculptures of fairy-tale characters - Nymphs, Danila the master and mistress of the Copper Mountain, the frog princess, as well as the eagle tormenting the snake, which is the symbol of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. From the top of the stairs you can admire the magnificent panorama of the outskirts of Zheleznovodsk and the Caucasian peaks lost in the bluish haze.

The cascade staircase in the Zheleznovodsk park was built in 1931-1936. during the reconstruction of the resort. The project of this extraordinary architectural and water ensemble was carried out by the architect N. A. Papkov.

It was found that most of the extracted mineral water is discharged completely unused or only partially used by the Zheleznovodsk medical institutions on the eastern slopes of Mount Zheleznaya, severely swamping them. This problem was solved quite simply: it was proposed to collect the streams of water discharged into the forest thickets, into the original tray. This is how the "Alley of Cascades" (now the Cascade Staircase) was created, connecting the Lower and Upper parks.

But the Cascade Staircase was not always the same as the author of the project created it. For about twenty years Kaskadka has been deprived of its main "zest" - a flowing water stream. And only in June 2011, the famous staircase again appeared in all its beauty - a stream of water flowing along the stairs and ledges, many fountains along the descent, flower beds, greenery of the park, as before, make the Cascade Staircase one of the most favorite places for walking local residents and guests of the city.
