Description of the attraction
The local history museum in the building of the City Hall in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk is a treasure trove of folk art of the Carpathian region.
The museum is located in the building of the City Hall, which was erected back in 1672, in the city center. During its existence, the Town Hall building has changed its appearance several times. It was originally a round tower with nine tiers of stone. In the form in which the tower is now, it was built at the beginning of the twentieth century. And in 1990, the Ukrainian flag was raised over the City Hall for the first time. The height of the tower is currently 50 meters; there is a kind of gilded dome above the tower.
The local history museum in the building of the Town Hall was opened in 1939. The collection of the museum includes several different expositions - nature, history, archeology, folk art. The Museum of Contemporary Art will also be of interest, featuring embroidery, ceramics, weaving and woodcarving. The extensive collections of antique weapons and furniture are striking. Of particular interest to visitors is the old model of the city of Stanislavov (the former name of Ivano-Frankivsk) during the reign of the Pototskys.
In total, the museum has over 120 thousand exhibits. In addition, every year the museum workers organize about twenty different exhibitions, usually of artistic and historical themes.
