Description of the attraction
The Government Palace, built by local stonemasons, was built in the neo-Gothic style, designed by the Roman architect Francesco Azzurri. Construction, which began in 1884, lasted 10 years. The facade of the palace is decorated with the coats of arms of the castles of the Republic. The upper part of the palace is decorated with Guelph battlements. On the left above the façade there is a bell tower with a clock, which depicts the figure of St. Marina, standing between St. Agathia and Leo.
In front of the Government Palace, there is Freedom Square, or as it is also called, Pianella, in the center of which stands the Statue of Liberty by the sculptor Galetti, donated to San Marino by Countess Otilia Geyrot Wagener in 1876.
