Description of the attraction
Tortum is a district and city in Erzurum province. The population of the city is about 4, 5 thousand inhabitants. It is located 600 meters above sea level. A road framed by yellow sandy rocks leads to Tortum.
The city of Tortum is the most beautiful after Erzincan in the Erzurum Eyalet. It is inhabited by surprisingly sincere, friendly, innocent and affable people. Each courtyard of the city has vineyards and orchards. Thanks to the mild climate, fruits and berries grow in abundance here. The pears, grapes and ruby red peaches are commendable.
The fortress in Tortum is a quadrangular structure located on a high hill. The fortress has one iron gate. Inside the citadel there is a small cathedral mosque with eighteen annexes and one barn.
In the lower suburb there are about seven hundred comfortable buildings. The city has only seven mosques and seven residential areas. There are also two living rooms, two baths, ten schools for boys and about seventy shops from each workshop. It is worth noting the absence of an imaret (a charitable institution at the mosque) and a besten (city market).
Nowadays, precious stones are mined in Tortum, because the city is located in a mountainous area.
