Description of the attraction
The Greek Catholic Church of St. Elijah is an old religious building in Chinadievo, to which believers and guests are attracted not only by its beauty, but also by a miraculous relic with a mysterious history. Elias Church embodies everything that a tourist might be interested in: antiquity, beautiful architecture and an amazing legend.
The temple was built in a converted Roman Catholic church built in the 14th century. Initially, the architecture of the temple was designed in the Gothic style, but as a result of numerous reconstructions, features of Baroque, Classicism and Art Nouveau were added. This beautiful example of cult architecture delights and inspires with its splendor, amazes with its harmony and successful combinations of details and elements related to various architectural trends. The bulbous domes typical of the classics are combined with the stained-glass windows typical of the Gothic. The simple angles and straight lines typical of Art Nouveau are echoed by the gracefully curved baroque tops of the façade elements.
A light, small church, decorated in pastel colors, creates an atmosphere of spaciousness and light, looks cozy and unusual.
The interiors of the temple are no less admirable. Beautiful brownish-greenish painting on semicircular vaults, a large five-tiered silver-golden iconostasis with small balconies on the sides, painted with biblical themes - every detail of the interior attracts attention, and contemplation of the results of the virtuoso work of the masters of Transcarpathia evokes extremely positive feelings.
