Description of the attraction

The Krasnaya Gorka Museum-Reserve in Kemerovo is a kind of open-air museum, based on the territory of a former coal mine. Here visitors can get acquainted with the history of the development of the coal industry of Kuzbass, see the monuments of the mining heritage.

The discoverer of Krasnaya Gorka was the miner Mikhailo Volkov, who in the distant 1721 discovered vast deposits of coal at this place. The history of the development of the entire Kuzbass began with the development of this field. The mine got its name - "Krasnaya Gorka" - as a result of underground combustion of coal, due to which the color of the mountain changed to red. The second name of this natural monument is Gorela Gorka.

Each of the stages in the development of the mine left its bright mark on history, and today visitors to the museum-reserve can see the ancient buildings of Kopikuz JSC, which operated in 1912-1919, residential buildings and public buildings erected at the initiative of the international industrial organization of the Autonomous Industrial Colony " Kuzbass ", which was engaged in the development of this region in the 20s of the last century.

In 2003, the complex of monuments "Krasnaya Gorka" was supplemented by a large-scale monument performed by the sculptor Ernst Neizvestny - "In memory of the miners of Kuzbass." Five years later, to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the Kemerovo mine, another monument was erected dedicated to the holy Great Martyr Barbara, who is the patron saint of miners.

All thematic exhibitions and expositions of the museum are devoted to the history of the development of the mine and the city of Kemerovo as a whole. There is a cinema at the museum, special for which a historical newsreel on the history of the city and the region was purchased, educational films are shown.
