Description of the attraction

The open-air rolling stock museum is one of the attractions of the city of Chelyabinsk. The grand opening of the museum took place in May 2005. The museum displays diesel locomotives, steam locomotives and electric locomotives, cisterns, wagons and platforms, which at various times were used on the South Ural railway. Most of the exhibits presented in the museum are in working order.

The museum exposition is located on two tracks, on one of which there are electric locomotives, and on the other there are steam locomotives. Railway equipment occupies track number 19, today it is called "19 dead end".

At the entrance to the museum you can see the "steamship coach" - the first steam locomotives built in 1833 in Russia by the brothers Efim and Miron Cherepanov.

One of the main exhibits of the rolling stock museum is a steam locomotive of the Eu series, produced in 1932, a steam locomotive P36, which was installed earlier on the platform of the Chelyabinsk railway station in honor of the railway workers who defended their homeland. In addition, the museum features a kitchen car, which provides meals for more than one platoon, a bakery car, which is capable of delivering up to 2 tons of bread per day. Nearby, there is a two-axle freight car-heat-drier, in which soldiers and horses were transported.

In the museum, you can clearly trace the entire history of traction rolling stock. It houses diesel locomotives 2TE10V, TE3, ChME3 and others that operated on the entire network of Russian roads in the middle of the last century. Electric locomotives VL80S, VL60K and VL10 worked together with them. Particular attention of visitors is attracted by the small diesel locomotive TGM23B, which was actively used for the transportation of goods at industrial enterprises, and the shunting ChME-3, made in fraternal Czechoslovakia. A very interesting electric locomotive of the company "Saveliano" - one of the purchased for work at the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine.

Among the unique exhibits of the museum, one should highlight the museum car, produced in 1910, which was used to transport high-ranking personalities. All rooms of the carriage - compartments for first-class passengers, salon and study are decorated with authentic things of those times and furnished with original furniture.

Exhibits for the Chelyabinsk Museum of Rolling Stock were collected from all depots of the South Ural Railways. The collection of the museum is regularly updated with new wagons and locomotives.
