Description of the attraction

In Zaozernoye there is a small Orthodox church built in honor of the Martyr Porfiry. Hieromartyr Porfiry was born in Podolsk province in 1828, he graduated from theological seminary in 1886 on October 22, after which he was ordained. He was rector of the cathedral in Olgopol from 1914 to 1928. The life of this martyr says that his authority was constantly growing, and his words became weighty and convincing for many. He stood up to defend Patriarch Tikhon, defending the inviolability of church canons. In 1927, after the death of his mother, Father Polycarp decided to take monastic tonsure and received the name Porfiry. The episcopal consecration took place in 1928 on June 5. The newly consecrated Vladyka Porfiry was named Bishop of Krivoy Rog. In 1931, Vladyka Porfiry was transferred to the Crimean Department. The diocese was under his rule from 1931 to 1937 - this is the most difficult period for the Orthodox Church. The bishop's activity of Vladyka Porfiry is constant confession and martyrdom. He was arrested several times, and in 1937 he was sent to Kazakhstan. Vladyka Porfiry was shot in 1938 on December 2. He was a real ascetic and an extraordinary person who served as an example of firmness of spirit and mercy. Vladyka Porfiry was canonized by the Orthodox Church.

The grateful memory of the Holy Martyr Porfiry is kept on the Crimean land. Thanks to the efforts of Metropolitan Lazar, in 1998 in honor of the new martyr Porfiry a small church was created in the village of Zaozernoye in the Evpatoria deanery. The temple was located in the house where the village council was previously located, and even later - an outpatient clinic. In 1998, on March 7, the UOC community was formed in the village, the chairman of which was N. I. Polyanina. In November 1998, a lease agreement was signed for this building for a temple. Major repairs were required here, but the community's activists, despite the difficulties, made every effort to restore the building. Many people took an active part in this selfless work; the affairs of the temple, from March 1998 to 2003, was occupied by N. I. Polyanina.

The first divine service was held in the church in 1998 on December 6 at nine o'clock in the morning. This is a significant event in the life of believers, since earlier services were held very rarely and even then on the street.

The temple continued to develop with God's help and thanks to the prayers of the parishioners. In 2002, on December 2, the foundation was laid for the altar part of the temple. This event was a great joy. In the spring of 2003, a priest appeared in the church on a permanent basis - Priest Ilya Malyutin. The roof was erected, the heating was repaired, the floors were replaced, the dome was erected and the cross was installed. More and more parishioners appeared in the church, many icons were donated by them. In 2003, a three-member choir was formed in the temple. There is a Sunday school at the church.
