Description of the attraction

The Poozerie Museum of Traditional Hand Weaving was opened in 1998 in the city of Polotsk. The museum sets the task of collecting information about the ancient traditionally female Belarusian applied art - hand weaving, spinning, embroidery, weaving. Through these women's crafts, visitors to the museum can more fully experience the cozy world of the housewife of the Lake District: the world of amulets and beliefs, rituals and fairy tales - everything that a woman, being at home, puts with the warmth of her skillful fingers into patterns of fabric, woven belts, embroidery, lace, hemstitching.

However, the tasks of the museum are not limited to this. Employees collect rich ethnographic material related to rituals and traditions, affecting all aspects of the life of a Belarusian family: matchmaking and weddings, birth and christening of children, family holidays, holidays of the peasant annual cycle, memorial rites.

Much work is done by the museum staff among young people. Within the walls of the Poozerie Museum of Traditional Hand Weaving, everyone is taught weaving, embroidery, lace-making and other women's crafts. Famous craftswomen come here to conduct master classes for the younger generation, because these traditional arts from time immemorial have been passed from hand to hand from woman to woman.

They also show and conduct ceremonies in the museum. Most often - wedding. After all, a wedding is the most joyful and most crucial moment in a person's life. The museum knows how to marry a bride and how to carry out a wedding ceremony so that there is peace, harmony, prosperity in the house, and children are born in the love and comfort of the traditional Belarusian family way.
