Description of the attraction
One of the best zoos in Asia - the National Zoological Park of the city of Delhi - is located near the Old Fort and occupies an area of more than 86 hectares, which is home to about 2 thousand birds and animals of 130 species that live not only in Asia, but also in Africa. Australia and America.
The park was founded in 1955, but only opened to visitors in 1959, and has since become one of the most famous zoos in the world. It was originally called the Delhi Zoo, but in 1982 it received national status.
The zoo is divided into several sectors. So the left part is reserved mostly for birds, including waterfowl, for which special ponds have been created, hyenas, macaques, crocodiles and jaguars also live there. The right wing is occupied by African buffaloes, chimpanzees, hippos, zebras, Asiatic lions, koats, rhinos, tigers, leopards, black bears and many other animal species. And in the central part of the park there is an underground terrarium where you can admire pythons and king cobras.
The zoo is also implementing a program to protect and increase populations of endangered species of animals and birds, such as the Royal Bengal tiger, barasinga, deer-lyre, bank jungle chicken.
In addition to rich fauna, the park boasts a collection of over 200 different plant species. It is also the site of numerous holidays and national festivals dedicated to the wildlife of India.
When visiting the National Zoo, one must remember that it is forbidden to feed animals there, therefore food cannot be brought into its territory.
