Description of the attraction

The Bratislava Zoo is located on the territory of the most densely populated district of Bratislava, which is called Petrzalka. It was planned to open it immediately after the Second World War, but then this idea remained unrealized. The zoo began operating in 1960. Before that, for a whole year, on 9 hectares of land located in the Mlyn Valley, enclosures and pavilions for keeping animals were being erected. The Bratislava Zoo was not lucky: instead of expanding its area, it was constantly squeezed. In 1981-1985, more than half of its land was given for the development of road forks and the laying of sewer pipes. In 2003, according to the plan, a route leading to the Sitna tunnel was to pass through part of the zoo. Naturally, no one began to move the road for the sake of such a "trifle" as the Bratislava Zoo. Accordingly, the local menagerie has lost another impressive area of its territory. Then they even had to erect a new entrance, as the old one ended up on the construction site.

From the very beginning of its existence, the zoo set as its goal the maintenance and breeding of rare species of animals. It contains panthers, lynxes, antelopes, white tigers, lions and other mammals. One of the most popular pavilions is the Monkey Nursery. The so-called Dino Park is open on the territory of the park, where various reptiles are presented and models of prehistoric animals are installed to the delight of children. In 2006, a new cat pavilion was opened. That is, the zoo is developing, and the city authorities of Bratislava are planning to allocate a significant amount to support it.
