Description of the attraction
Mount Erzhorn, 2,924 meters high, is adjacent to the Aroser-Rothorn peak and is considered the second highest in the Plessur Alps in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. At the same time, it is the westernmost and highest peak of the ridge, stretching from north to east and connecting the Aroser-Rothorn and Schafrugg mountains. Mount Erzhorn is located on the border of the municipalities of Arosa and Alvanu.
From the top of Ertshorn, a rocky embankment departs in the direction of the southeast, along which you can get to the chalet "Ramoz". The poorly expressed and inaccessible northern peak of Ertshorn drops abruptly downward. It was possible to climb the mountain from the north side only on April 16, 1902. The ascent was made by Lieutenant Erbgraf Waldbott from Bassenheim and Gamsjaer Andreas Rudy.
From the top of Erzhorn, a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains opens, especially in the direction of the Alpliese-Arosenthal valley. The image of Ertskhorn can be seen on the coat of arms of Arzy municipality. This mountain, unofficially considered the symbol of the famous resort of Arosa, was chosen because of its picturesque forked peak, which is perfectly visible from below, from the hotels in Arosa.
In the Middle Ages, the slopes of Mount Ertshorn, like many neighboring peaks, were dug up by mines, where iron ore and other minerals were mined, which were then processed in the furnaces of Arosa. Currently, the mountain is accessible for climbing, which is used by many lovers of mountaineering and hiking. The easiest way is to climb Ertshorn along the western ridge. A well-marked route starts from the urban area of Inner Arosa. For 3, 5 hours, tourists climb to the top. Difficulty level - T4. It requires special physical training.
