Description of the attraction

The planetarium is one of the sights of the city of Kharkov. It was opened in 1957. The initiative to create a planetarium in Kharkov belonged to the Soviet astronomer Nikolai Pavlovich Barabashov. The first apparatus, which was installed under the spherical dome of the building, was Planetarium UP-4. And from the very first days in the planetarium, several astronomical circles were opened for students of different ages.

The device "Planetarium UP-4" was replaced in 1962 by the German "Small Zeiss". Further, this apparatus was replaced by the "Middle Zeiss", as a result of the reconstruction of the building (1970-1974), when the old eight-meter dome was dismantled with a new 15-meter one. The device "Middle Zeiss", with program control, was opened during the All-Union seminar of planetarium directors on February 19, 1975 and became the first automatic device in the Soviet Union.

In subsequent years, many changes took place in the Kharkov planetarium, and new programs and expositions were opened. For example, in 2008, a new exposition was opened at the Cosmos Museum, which revealed the topic of ufological research, where they presented information about possible life on other planets, messages from earthlings to other civilizations, information about anomalous zones of our planet, and figures of aliens were presented in an art gallery …

In 2011, a small stellar hall and a hall were opened, where a virtual telescope is located, which makes it possible to observe the stars and planets even in the daytime.

In the period from February to March 2012, reconstruction was again carried out, as a result of which the museum was replenished with new exhibits, such as copies of spacecraft and launch vehicles and the figure of cosmonaut and astronaut Yuri Gagarin.
