A properly selected hotel is half, and in some cases even 100%, a guarantee of a good rest. How not to become a victim of deception by hoteliers, how to expose from a photo that the offered accommodation does not meet high standards, and sometimes even a solid cost? Let's figure it out!
When choosing a hotel, an experienced tourist pays attention to several factors:
- description of the hotel and its services on booking sites;
- reviews of visitors, which are real and customized;
- photographs of the hotel building, rooms and other premises.
The pictures provided by the hotel can tell a lot to a knowledgeable person. There are several tricks that unscrupulous hotel owners use to hide the flaws in their rooms. These techniques are easy to recognize.
Room view shown through the mirror
There are certain standards for interior photography. Usually the room is photographed from a corner. In this case, the tourist understands its real dimensions, clearly sees the situation, and can appreciate the design.
If on an online booking site you come across a picture in which a room is reflected in a mirror, this is a reason to think about whether you need this hotel. When shooting through a mirror, it is usually difficult to understand the dimensions of the room, consider the details of its design, and understand how long ago the renovation was carried out. There is an attempt to deceive the client by slipping him a flawed number.
Colored towels and bed linen
Is the hotel rated 4 or 5 stars but still offers printed bedding sets and colored towels? Immediately mentally reduce its "stardom". In respectable, self-respecting hotels, it is customary to use only white linen and towels.
Another trick to tell a good place to sleep from a not so good one is the location of the towels. In normal hotels, they will be in the bathroom, in all other hotels - on the beds.
Pay attention to the number of towels. Each guest is provided with a set of 6 towels. If there are fewer of them, the hotel does not meet a high standard.
An extraneous thing in the foreground
If the hotel has nothing to brag about to its clients, it posts “artistic” photographs on the booking systems' sites, which show a close-up of a plate of fruit, a curly clock in the lobby, a bed with a beautifully folded towel, etc. hard. The photo turns out to be uninformative, although beautiful.
But even from such pictures, you can extract some information. For example, a vase with flowers in the room indicates that the hotel does not skimp on trifles that are pleasant to any guest, beautiful interior details indicate that a professional designer worked on the design of the rooms.
Light, airy curtains
Photos with curtains fluttering from the sea breeze look very attractive. But such light curtains are unlikely to allow you to fully rest and not jump up with the first rays of the sun.
Blackout curtains are especially important if you have rescheduled a long flight the day before and arrived from a country located in a different time zone. After a difficult flight, the only thing a tourist wants is a good night's sleep.
Cats in the photo
Many tropical hotels that attract tourists with free-standing bungalows and beautiful green areas with ponds and waterfalls on the hotel grounds are notorious for the presence of rats. Nobody will say this directly, so as not to frighten off customers.
Some owners of such hotels fight with rats with the help of cats, which are fed and welcomed in every possible way. Therefore, if you notice cats lazily lounging in the sun on advertising photos of the hotel, you should know that the hotel indirectly admits that there are rats in its tropical houses.
Bath or shower with curtain
A bourgeois oilcloth curtain in the bathroom is unacceptable in a respectable hotel. This rule applies even if the shower is just an unprotected space with holes in the floor. In five-star hotels that care about their reputation, there will be no curtains, even if the toilet is located next to such an open shower.
The conclusion is simple - you see the curtain in the bathroom, make an appropriate conclusion about the luxury of the hotel.
The room is filmed from above
Photos showing the room shown from under the ceiling are not common, but are found on accommodation booking sites. In such a cunning way, hotel owners are trying to show the client that the rooms offered for living are spacious and full of air and light, which does not correspond to reality. In such pictures, you can see the effect of increasing space in action.
Photos taken with a wide-angle lens
It is very difficult to understand the real dimensions of the license plate from wide-angle photographs. Such pictures look impressive, but they mislead customers. Choosing a room based on such a picture, you run the risk of being in a room 2 times less than what you saw and expected. At the same time, the hotel will not be able to make a claim - it honestly photographed the existing room, just used a different lens.
So what to do if, after viewing the photos, there are suspicions of deception and there are no reviews of real tourists? It is better to refuse to book a room in such a hotel and look for something else. Vacation is not so often, you should not risk it due to dishonesty of hoteliers!
