When planning your Vienna tour, you can find many scheduled flights from various European airlines:
- The cheapest airline tickets are sold for the Moscow - Vienna flight by UTair. The aircraft fly from Vnukovo, passengers spend a little less than three hours in the sky, and they pay about 150 euros for a ticket, subject to advance booking.
- The Russian carrier S7 estimates its services at 160 euros. His planes depart from the Moscow Domodedovo airport.
- Austrian airlines also fly from Domodedovo. Austrian Airlines offers tickets from Moscow to Vienna and back for 180 euros.
- The cheapest flights with connections are offered by Air Serbia. But the difference in price with tickets for a direct flight is not very noticeable, and for the opportunity to get to Vienna with a connection in Belgrade, you will need to pay about 140 euros. The flight will last 4.5 hours of net time, and while waiting for a transfer, you will have to spend from 4 to 12 hours. It is not very convenient, unless, of course, you plan to go out into the city and get an overview of the sights of the Serbian capital. Russian tourists do not need a visa for this.
In the capital of Austria, all international flights are accepted by Schwechat Airport, which is only a dozen kilometers away from the city center.
How to get to Vienna from the airport
Vienna International Airport is connected to the Austrian capital by both public transport and taxis. The last transfer method is quite expensive and you will be charged at least 40 euros for calling a taxi car and a trip to the center.
Public transport will cost an order of magnitude cheaper:
- The cheapest way you can get to Vienna from Schwechat by train. It's called the Schnellzug (S-Bahn) S7. Trains run at half-hour intervals to Wien Mitte station. The fare is 4.5 euros. Buy your ticket at automatic ticket offices! The cashier will charge an additional 1 euro for his services.
- From 6 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. you can use the high-speed CAT (City Airport Train) system. Trains are on the way to the same Wien Mitte in just 15 minutes. The station is located at the intersection of lines U3 and U4. One way ticket price is 11 euros. Tickets are booked on the company's website - www.cityairporttrain.com. - Buses are the middle ground in terms of fares between high-speed trains and regular trains. You will have to pay 8 euros for travel from the airport to the center of Vienna by shuttles and express trains. Look for buses labeled Vienna-Airport-Service and Vienna Airport Lines. The routes are operated from 6 am to midnight, with a traffic interval of about 30 minutes. Travel time depends on traffic and can range from half an hour to an hour. Express routes - from the airport to the city air terminal and to the South and West railway stations.
To Austria without haste
Trains and buses have long ceased to be popular with those for whom "time is money", but tourists who prefer to contemplate pleasant landscapes on the road are still in favor of these types of transport.
Every week on Fridays at 06.33 a direct carriage departs from the platform of the Belorussky railway station in Moscow to Vienna as part of the Vltava train. Its passengers arrive in the Austrian capital in 29 hours. The train goes through Minsk and Warsaw. The cost of an adult ticket in the 2nd class compartment is 187 euros, in the 1st class compartment - 280 euros. If you reserve a seat in the carriage at least 45 days before the train departure, you will receive a 10% discount. Residents of St. Petersburg can go to Vienna by train, which departs weekly on Thursdays. Travel time is about 1, 5 days. The train is called St. Petersburg - Grodno, and the car to Vienna is trailed. Since April 2017, the cost of a full adult ticket is 197 euros in the 2nd class compartment and 298 euros in the first compartment.
Bus transportation from the Russian capital to the Austrian one is carried out, among other things, by the Ecolines company. Buses do not leave every day, but the details of the timetable are enough to check on the carrier's website - www.ecolines.net. The purchase of an adult ticket will cost 109 euros one way. The buses are equipped according to European standards. The salon has an air conditioning system, a dry closet, multimedia and there are individual sockets for recharging phones and other electronics.
The car is not a luxury
If you decide to get to Vienna by private car, do not forget about the need to strictly adhere to traffic rules in European countries. This will help to avoid heavy fines and waste of time to sort things out with the traffic police.
The cost of one liter of fuel in Austria is 1.16 euros, and to travel on the toll roads of the country, motorists need to purchase a special permit. It is called a "vignette" and is sold at petrol stations and at border crossings. The price of a vignette for 10 days for a car in Austria is 8.90 euros.
