The developed and economically stable state of the United Arab Emirates quite often falls into the zone of attention of Russian citizens, not only in connection with the organization of an unforgettable beach holiday or profitable convenient shopping. An increasing number of compatriots who have visited Dubai or Abu Dhabi are wondering how to move to the UAE and stay in the eastern fairytale country for a long time or forever.

A little about the country

The Emirates, despite the seeming well-being of its inhabitants, is a very difficult state and for those whose way of life was still different from the local one, it may seem very unfriendly and difficult to integrate into the local society. This is especially true for immigrants who profess religions other than Islam. It is almost impossible for them to organically integrate into the Muslim society and feel comfortable among the surrounding reality.

Local weather can also cause problems. For most of the year, the UAE is experiencing intense heat due to its desert climate. Despite the fact that even public transport stops are air-conditioned in the Emirates, such weather can cause discomfort and ailments, especially for older people and children.

Where to begin?

Russian citizens can enter the UAE with a visa in their passport. There are several types of visas that are issued depending on the purpose of visiting the country by foreigners. A visa is issued through visa centers, hotels and at the country's airports.

When applying for a visa, it is important to remember about the special treatment of young women in the Emirates. If the visa applicant is under 30 years of age and is not married, she will have to pay insurance, which is about USD 1,000. The money will be returned if during the visit to the country the guest does not have any problems with the law.

For sure, visa applicants will be denied a visa, in whose passport there are marks of a visit to Israel.

In order to stay in the UAE for a long time and obtain a residence permit in the future, you will have to issue a guest, work or business visa.

Legal ways to move to the UAE for permanent residence

In order for a long stay in the Emirates to be legal, an immigrant will have to take care of obtaining a residence permit. The grounds for issuing it to the authorities may be:

  • Desire to reunite with family. If your relatives have citizenship of the country, they have the right to invite foreigners to visit them for a long time.
  • Registration of marriage with a citizen or citizen of the United Arab Emirates. This method allows you to obtain the citizenship of the country in three years, but in practice it turns out that a foreigner of non-Arab origin will not be able to do this.
  • Employment at an enterprise or company in the UAE. The most popular vector of job searches in the country is the tourism sector. Foreigners with knowledge of Russian, English and other popular languages are in demand in hotels, restaurants, travel companies and the service sector. Skilled construction workers and engineers are also readily employed here.
  • Buying a property. In this case, a resident visa is issued not only to the owner of square meters, but also to close members of his family - his spouse and children.
  • Establishment of an enterprise in the United Arab Emirates. A free economic zone on the territory of the country attracts foreign businessmen who have decided to create a company in a state where business is not subject to taxes. The most promising conditions for the development of the enterprise attract and become the reason for moving to the UAE more and more new investors.

A residence permit issued on the basis of one of the above conditions is valid for three years. Then it should be extended. The grounds for the extension are impeccable compliance with all laws of the Emirates.

Any resident who is absent from the country for more than 180 days a year can be revoked. Exceptions will be made for spouses of UAE citizens, persons undergoing long-term medical treatment outside the state, foreign students studying at universities abroad, and those who had to go to work abroad. A three-year residence permit can be renewed any number of times.

Residence permit in the Emirates can be of two types - with and without the right to work.

Think for yourself, decide for yourself

Despite the fact that, in theory, a foreigner who has lived in the country legally with a residence permit for about seven years can obtain citizenship, in fact very few people succeed. First, the passport of the United Arab Emirates will never be issued to an immigrant who professes any religion other than Islam. In addition, an important prerequisite for obtaining citizenship here is a confirmed Arab origin.

Children born even from mixed marriages automatically receive UAE citizenship if at least one parent is a citizen of the Emirates and recognizes their rights to the child.
