Throughout the post-Soviet space, Georgia still holds itself apart. Its "breed" is felt in everything: in the dignity of its indigenous inhabitants, and in the majesty of the gray mountain peaks that can be seen on the horizon anywhere in the country, and in the delicate taste of Georgian wines, generously poured for dear guests in every home. The question of how to move to Georgia is increasingly being asked by those who want to live in a country where laws are implemented, respect for their elders and are trying to build a developed, prosperous society without corruption. For some time now, the Georgians have succeeded, and therefore more and more citizens of Russia and other republics of the former USSR are paying attention to the Transcaucasian country with the red cross of St. George on the state flag.
A little about the country
Only slightly more than 80 percent of the republic's population are ethnic Georgians. In other words, almost every fifth inhabitant is an immigrant who at one time or another has chosen the country as a place of permanent residence. There are many Russians and Armenians, Ossetians and Greeks, Azerbaijanis and Yezidis in Georgia.
The climate of Georgia is suitable for everyone, without exception, and therefore more and more foreigners prefer to buy real estate in the country - both in the capital and in the seaside resort of Batumi.
The economy of Georgia is not developing at a very fast pace, but this process is steadily growing and this progress is largely facilitated by foreign investments.
The migration policy of the Georgian authorities is very loyal to foreigners, and therefore everyone can move to Georgia for permanent residence or become the owner of a residence permit, if desired.
Where to begin?
Entry to the territory of the republic for citizens of Russia is possible without a visa if the guests plan to stay in Georgia for no more than 90 days. All long-term visits must be carried out on the basis of an entry migration visa.
A visa to Georgia is issued at the consular section of the country's embassy. A long-term migration visa is valid for 1 year, after which the permit must be canceled.
Upon arrival in Georgia, potential immigrants will need to issue a temporary and then permanent residence permit.
Legal ways to move to Georgia for permanent residence
Like other countries of the world, Georgia has its own migration legislation, which sets out the ways to obtain a residence permit and the status of a resident of the republic. A foreigner has the right to reside in the country if he:
- Has entered into a legal marriage with a citizen or citizen of Georgia.
- He wants to reunite with his family, whose members already hold Georgian passports.
- Has Georgian roots and can document this fact.
- He signed a labor contract with a Georgian employer and plans to work in the country.
- He is going to invest large sums of money in the Georgian economy or open his own business on the territory of the country.
The authorities of the state have the right to refuse to issue a residence permit to a foreigner who has a criminal record, serious and dangerous diseases for society, or who has used forged documents or previously had problems with the law on the territory of Georgia or was deported from it.
The residence permit is issued for a maximum of six years, after which it can be renewed.
All works are good
Obtaining a residence permit by drawing up a work contract is a popular way to become, over time, a permanent resident of Georgia. Qualified specialists are always in demand in the country and a citizen of Russia can find a suitable vacancy on specialized sites or during a study trip to the Transcaucasian republic. Recently, the tourism industry has been actively developing in Georgia, and in this regard, there are many jobs on the labor market for guides and tour guides, translators and employees of hotels and restaurants, highly qualified builders of various specialties and workers in the service sector. Doctors and nurses, IT specialists and accountants, kindergarten teachers and Russian language teachers in schools are in demand.
A work migration visa and then a residence permit are issued on the basis of a signed labor contract with a Georgian employer. Five years in the status of an immigrant with a residence permit on a work visa give grounds to apply for obtaining Georgian citizenship.
Business people
Investing large amounts of money in the Georgian economy gives a foreigner the opportunity to take advantage of various benefits when obtaining a residence permit in Georgia. The state pursues a policy of comprehensive support for small and medium-sized businesses, and therefore the opening of small enterprises in the service sector or the tourism industry is here in every possible way encouraged and supported. According to the law, a foreigner can also become a shareholder and head of a company in Georgia, and therefore one does not have to look for a local resident to register an enterprise.
Think for yourself, decide for yourself
Georgia is considered a very favorable country for the movement of citizens from the republics of the former USSR. Georgians and Russians have a very similar mentality, almost all residents of the republic understand and speak Russian, so integration into Georgian society is rather quick and painless. Promotes comfortable socialization and hospitality of the residents of the republic.
It is important to remember that the country does not accept dual citizenship, and therefore, in order to receive the coveted blue Georgian passport, you will first have to give up the red, Russian one.
Citizenship can be obtained either by right of blood, born to Georgian parents, or by going through the naturalization process. Adult foreign migrants use the second method. In this case, citizenship can be claimed after five years of legal residence in Georgia and compliance with all migration laws of the republic.
Mandatory conditions that an immigrant must meet in order to obtain Georgian citizenship:
- Know the state language at a sufficient level for communication and understanding.
- Know the laws of the country and its history.
- Have a steady job or a source of sufficient financial resources to live on.
- Own real estate in Georgia.
Without observing these requirements, Georgian citizenship can only be obtained by a foreigner who is of undoubted interest for the country - an outstanding scientist, sportsman, and cultural figure. Citizenship of such immigrants is appropriated by his own decree personally by the President of the country.
