City excursions in Greece

The most important part of the tourist routes are excursions to the Greek cities that have left their mark on the history of mankind. The largest number of proposals is the capital, beautiful Athens, then Halkidiki, Thessaloniki, Crete, Rhodes.

You need to be prepared for the fact that the excursion to the capital will last from two to four hours, and almost the entire route will have to be covered on foot. You should be wary of the guide's suggestions for an hour excursion, this time is enough only for a visit to the Acropolis and the Parthenon, but you can inspect these objects on your own.

To get acquainted with the ancient history of this city, it is best to choose an excursion with the name "Ancient Athens" or something similar. The duration of such a route will be about 3-4 hours, the cost is 45 € (per person), combined: tourists will explore the Athenian Acropolis during a walking tour (about 2 hours), other sights of the city - by car or bus.

Delphi was one of the important cult centers of Ancient Greece; some of the ancient architectural structures have survived to this day, so an excursion to this ancient city will leave an unforgettable experience. In the list of sites important for tourists to visit, you can find:

  • the monastery of St. Luke;
  • The Delphic Museum, which stores unique archaeological artifacts found during excavations;
  • The Treasury of the Athenians, built in honor of the heroic victory of the capital's inhabitants in the battle near Marathon;
  • Temple of Apollo.

The cult building, erected in honor of the god Apollo, is considered a visiting card of Delphi and the main attraction, not only of modern Greece, but also of ancient Greece, thanks to the Delphic Oracle.

Acropolis - the visiting card of the country

The main architectural and cultural monument of Greece is located in the capital, in the so-called New City. Attracted, first of all, by its famous temple complexes, including the Parthenon and the Erechtheion.

The Parthenon Temple is considered one of the greatest examples of architecture of the ancient inhabitants of Greece, which today remains a symbol of the country. The Erechtheion is a little less famous, although marble from Mount Pendelikon was used for its construction, and the magnificent portico of Caryatids is the real decoration of this architectural masterpiece.

Mysterious Halkidiki and Thessaloniki

Tourists vacationing near Halkidiki, a beautiful Greek city known since ancient times, do not miss the opportunity to book a tour of the preserved monuments of the past. The cost of excursions is from 40-50 €, depending on the chosen route, travel options - by car and on foot, individual orders and group orders (up to 30 people).

He is one of the largest in Greece, which has the unspoken nickname of "the eighth wonder of the world."The cells are located in the rocks, are an amazing sight, and stunning views open from the observation deck.

The Petralona Cave was discovered in the middle of the 20th century and is one of the most popular tourist destinations. This classic cave has a karst origin and surprises guests with fancifully "growing" stalactites and stalagmites. The uniqueness of the object from the point of view of tourists lies in the artifacts found during excavations. It was here that a human skull, considered the oldest in Europe, was discovered, in addition, ancient tools and skeletons of animals were found, which can be seen in the local Anthropological Museum. The cost of a tour of the cave with a visit to the museum is 50 € (per person).

A tour of Thessaloniki will cost almost four times more, but the visit is worth it, the city is called the capital of empires, and today it houses the monuments of ancient architecture included in the UNESCO lists.
