In heraldry, sometimes rather strange stories happen, on the one hand, the coat of arms of Belgorod and the coat of arms of the Belgorod region are identical, that is, they have the same shield shape, the same main characters. On the other hand, the heraldic symbol of the regional center looks more formidable and solemn. This is achieved, firstly, through the use of expressive artistic means, and secondly, due to the palette chosen for the color of the shield and individual heraldic elements.
Wealth and symbolism of flowers
For the main heraldic symbol of Belgorod, the authors of the sketch took three primary colors, which together look, on the one hand, restrained and laconic, on the other, harmonious. For the background of the shield, the azure color, which is very popular in the heraldry of Europe, has been chosen. It is associated with nobility, purity of thoughts and deeds, and this color is also associated with the water resources of a region or city.
Two more basic tones are present in the image of the main characters: gold - for a lion; silver - for the eagle. In addition, a scarlet color was used, in which the lion's tongue is painted, protruding from the mouth. Thanks to this artistic technique, the predatory animal looks like a real, real, and not a gilded monument.
For the image of a bird of prey, a silver color is used, which is associated with a precious metal. Fine details of the bird, such as the beak and clawed feet, are shown in gold.
From the history of the coat of arms of Belgorod
The heraldic symbol of this Russian regional center was put into effect by the City Council in 1999, with two official documents. The first appeared the provision on the heraldic symbol of Belgorod, the second - the image itself was approved. Residents of the city are proud that among the coats of arms of cities and regions of Russia, their official symbol was among the earliest.
It corresponds to the Belgorod coat of arms, approved in 1893, but the modern symbol has a specific author - the famous Russian artist and woodcarver Vladimir Aksenov. And the emblem, which was depicted on the banners of the Belgorod infantry regiment back in 1712, served as a prototype for both coat of arms.
An interesting fact is that initially a lion and a rooster were depicted on the emblem, the latter character was subsequently replaced by a predatory and proud eagle. The eagle in this case was the symbol of Russia, and the lion, standing on its hind legs, symbolized the defeated Sweden.
