Rest in the Caucasus allows travelers to find themselves in a land famous for ancient monuments, beautiful nature, mineral springs and various landscapes. Tourists traveling to this region should definitely pay attention to the waterfalls.
Lermontovsky waterfall
You can get to this beautiful three-meter waterfall from the center of Kislovodsk by public transport or on foot, moving along Prudnaya Street. Local residents believe that it was he who was mentioned by Lermontov in his story "Princess Mary". Tourists can enjoy the view of the water stream in the Olkhovka River valley from above, from a rocky platform, or from below, approaching its foot.
Alibek waterfall
The 25-meter waterfall is the result of the fall of the Dzhalovchatka River from the Alibek Glacier. Alibek waterfall is an attractive object for lovers of hiking trails (it is perfect for the whole family, since it does not require much time and effort). Despite the available opportunity to overcome part of the way to the waterfall by car (to the Alibek alpine camp), it is better to do it with your own feet, while admiring the picturesque area.
If you wish, you can continue the excursion and go to the Alibek glacier - for this you need to cross the river over the stones (in case of a low water level), but since there are no paths on the other bank, you should not go on such a trip without an experienced accompanying person.
Rufabgo Stream Waterfalls
The stream has formed 16 waterfalls and rapids of different heights, and in order to see them, a special excursion route has been developed for travelers. It starts from a pedestrian bridge, the passage along which is paid, but those who want to see the waterfalls for free can set off from the village of Kamennomostsky (left bank of the Belaya River).
Of the waterfalls of the Rufabgo stream, the following deserve the attention of tourists:
- Noise: The descent to this 6-meter waterfall is via an equipped staircase.
- Three brothers: the waterfall, the name of which is explained by the presence of a stream of 3 jets, is clearly visible from the pedestrian bridge. It should be noted that during strong floods the river hides the “Three Brothers”, but as soon as the water level decreases, the waterfall becomes available for viewing again.
- Maiden's scythe: the jets of this cascade, which has the second name “Lace”, fall from a 15-meter height. It is at the Maiden Spit where the section of the trail, equipped for tourists, ends.
Sofia waterfalls
The area of Sofia waterfalls is a popular tourist route (area of mountain tourism and mountaineering). It is worth noting that water streams flow from the slope of Mount Sofia, forming several cascades (waterfalls reaching a height of up to 90 m are fed by a glacier located at an altitude of more than 3600 m above sea level). These flows are called pulsating because they are not constant (they peak in July-August).
Sultan waterfall
For those who decide to be alone with nature, it is recommended to go to the Sultan Waterfall, which falls from a 40-meter height. And just below you can find the warm springs of Dzhily-Su.
