The rivers of Puerto Rico are quite numerous - just over fifty rivers flow through the island. For an island of ten thousand squares, this is a pretty decent figure.
Rio Blanca river
Rio Blanca - translated from Spanish as "white river" - runs through the municipality of Ponce (northeastern part). The source of the river is in a mountainous area. Estuary - Rio Prieto. The Rio Blanca is one of fourteen rivers flowing through the territory of the municipality of Ponce.
Rio Grande de Lois river
The riverbed of the Rio Grande de Lois runs along the northern tip of the island, crossing it from south to north. The total length of the current is about sixty-four kilometers. And this makes it the second longest river in Puerto Rico.
The source is located in the municipality of San Lorenzo (height above sea level one thousand seventy three meters). The river ends its way at the confluence of the Atlantic waters near the town of San Juan.
Rio Grande de Anyasco river
The Rio Grande de Anyasco crosses Puerto Rico in its western part. The source of the river is located on the slopes of the Central Cordilleras. Then the river descends into the valley and goes westward to the very place of confluence with the Mona River. The total length of the current reaches sixty-four kilometers.
Rio Guahataca river
The Rio Guahataca crosses the island in its northwestern part and flows into the Atlantic waters. The total length of the Rio Guahataca reaches forty-one kilometers. The source of the river is located on the lands of the municipality of Lares (altitude four hundred and eighty-eight meters above sea level), crossing the territories of several municipalities: Lares, San Sebastian and Isabella. The river forms several lakes on its way.
Rio Inabon river
Rio Inabon runs through the lands of the municipality of Ponce. The total length of the river is thirty-two kilometers and it is the second longest Puerto Rican river after the Rio Jacaguas. The total catchment area is sixty-one square kilometers.
Rio Jacaguas river
The Rio Jacaguas is the natural border between the two municipalities - Ponce and Juan Diaz. The river crosses the territory of Puerto Rico from north to south and flows into the Caribbean Sea. The total length of the current is almost forty kilometers.
The source of the river is located in the municipality of Villalba. The Rio Jacaguas then transits through the lands of the municipalities of Villalba and Juan Diaz. On the way, the river passes through Lake Guayaval. After that, the Rio Jacaguas channel divides the lands between Ponce and Juan Diaz.
