For the most part, the rivers of Romania originate on the slopes of the Carpathians and either independently or through other rivers flow into the waters of the Danube.

River Maros

The river flows through the territory of two states - Romania and Hungary. The total length of the current is 803 kilometers. Maros is a left tributary of the Tisza River. There are several cities on the banks of the river: Targu Mures, Alba Iulia, Arad.

The source of the river is in the central part of Romania (slopes of the Eastern Carpathians). The upper part of the current is a typical mountain river with a fast current. After entering the territory of the Central Danube Plain, the run of the river slows down.

Approximately 21 kilometers of the river takes over the natural border separating Hungary and Romania. The Maros channel is navigable in the middle and lower reaches.

Prut river

The Prut is a river, the channel of which passes through the territory of three states - Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. It is a left tributary of the Danube, with a total length of 953 kilometers. The source of the river is in the Eastern Carpathians (Ivano-Frankivsk region).

Visheu river

Visheu passes through the northern lands of Romania (the historical region of Mapamures). The river is a left tributary of the Tisza and passes through the territory of the following towns: Borshu; Visheu de Sus; Visheu de Jos; Leordin; Petrova; Bistru; Valea Viseu (here Viseu flows into the waters of the Tisza).

The source of the river is in the northeastern part of the Rodna Mountains (height above sea level is 1409 meters). The total length of the channel is 80 kilometers. Visheu receives the waters of two rivers - Vasér and Oroszi.

Arana river

The river bed territorially crosses the western lands of Romania and the north of Serbia. The Arana is a left tributary of the Tisza. Translated from Greek, the name of the river is translated as "golden river".

The source of the river is located near the village of Sekusijdu (Romania) in the swampy floodplain of the Maros River. At first, the Arana flows parallel to the river that gave rise to it (to the town of Synnicolau-Mare), and then leaves in the south-west direction. The river has a very winding channel.

Arana belongs to the Danube basin. It is navigable only 10 kilometers up from the mouth. And the main use of the river is watering the valley. Not far from the village of Ostoichevo there is an excellent fishing pond.

The total length of the current is 117 kilometers. The "division" of the river is as follows: 41 kilometers belongs to Romania; 76 kilometers of the river belong to Serbia (autonomous region of Vojvodina).

Siret river

Siret is located on the territory of two countries - Ukraine and Romania. The total length of the river is 740 kilometers, of which 115 kilometers belong to Ukraine, the rest of the course is the “share” of Romania.

Siret is one of the tributaries (left) of the Danube. The source of the river is in the Bukovina Carpathians, and the main part of the course passes through the Moldavian Upland.
