There are a huge number of beautiful places and amazing natural landscapes in Georgia. In order to preserve the national treasure, the country's parliament adopted a law on nature conservation zones, according to which all reserves in Georgia, its national parks and natural protected areas received their status. The law provides for restricting visitors' access to reserves, while Georgian national parks, on the contrary, develop tourism as one of the areas of economic activity.
In the top ten
The best natural attractions can be seen by visiting the country's national parks. There are ten of them, but these two are rightfully considered the most popular:
- Kazbegi National Park is an area at the foot of Mount Kazbek, 11 km from the border with Russia on the sides of the Georgian Military Highway. The village of Kazbegi is the administrative center of this reserve in Georgia. Here, ascents to the top of Kazbek begin, and in the Darial Gorge, located nearby, travelers are attracted by amazing natural landscapes and the ancient fortress Darialistsikhe. Other activities in the national park include paragliding and horse riding, cycling and rafting on mountain rivers. Motocross and hiking trails allow you to cover distances in any of the chosen ways, and the mineral water springs make the rest especially beneficial for your health.
- Colchis National Park is located in the lowland of the same name on the Black Sea coast. The park's visitor center staff will be happy to advise guests on possible hiking routes and recommend sport fishing as an active recreation. There is a hotel on the territory of the park, which is especially popular during the intermediate stopover of migratory birds. In autumn and spring, in this Georgian nature reserve, you can observe the migration of swans and pelicans, and Colchis pheasants and spotted eagles live here all the time. Of all the animal species found in the Colchis National Park, six are included in the Red Book of the republic.
Caves and canyons
Georgia is a mountainous country, and therefore it is not surprising that various natural attractions located at a sufficient height above sea level are also among the specially protected objects. The mountain caves of Georgia are not very interesting for professional speleologists, since their size is not particularly impressive, but active amateur tourists are always delighted with such attractions. Among the national protected monuments, travelers can recommend the Sakazhii, Kumistavi, Nagarevi and Tsutsvati caves, and fans of landscape and panoramic photography will undoubtedly like the Eagle Gorge and Okatse Canyon. All objects are located in the regions of Kakheti and Imereti.
