The railways of Slovakia are a popular means of transportation. The railway transport sector of this country is very well developed. On many popular routes, trains run hourly. More intensive traffic is maintained in large settlements. The most important routes of the country are: Bratislava - Zilina, Bratislava - Sturovo, Zilina - Kosice, Bratislava - Kuta, etc. Railway communication is carried out between Slovakia and neighboring states. Railway transport began to function on the territory of Slovakia in 1840, when the first route from Bratislava was opened. Today the country is famous for its well-organized transport system and is listed in the International Union of Railways.

Regional trains with frequent stops are designated Os (Osobni). Passengers are also transported by Ex (Express) and R (Richlik) trains. The maximum speed is developed by IC (InterCity) trains.

The train timetable is presented on the ZSR website - www.zsr.sk. The country's railways are about 3662 km long. The train is the fastest means of transportation within Slovakia. Domestic trains are not equipped with berths. There are such places on international trains. Railway transport in Slovakia is considered fast. The Bratislava - Kosice route takes 5 hours by IC train.

A first-class seat ticket costs approximately € 20. To take a berth in the night train, you have to pay extra. From the main railway station in Bratislava, trains leave for different settlements of the country. From here, trains of international class are sent. Slovakia is a small state, therefore, mainly trains and cars are used to move passengers. The republican railway of the country provides quality service at affordable prices.
