Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the PRC, which is also one of the leading financial centers not only in Asia, but throughout the planet. The three main parts of the huge metropolis are Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and 260 islands of the New Territories. All parts and suburbs of Hong Kong are connected by excellent transport links, and therefore most of the inhabitants of the metropolis only come to the city center to work, preferring cheaper apartments in the vicinity.
Buddha on Lantau
The large island of Lantau in Hong Kong is famous for its international airport, which is gazed at from a high mountain by a huge bronze Buddha. His statue near the Po Lin Monastery is 34 meters high, and to climb to its foot, you have to climb 268 steps. The Buddha is a subject of pilgrimage not only for monks, but also for tourists, and its solid size until 2007 allowed the statue in a suburb of Hong Kong to remain the largest bronze Buddha in the world.
Hong Kong Airport is no less a local attraction. It was built in just six years on an artificial island piled up specifically for this purpose. In the Guinness Book of Records, after the opening of Hong Kong terminals, a record appeared about the most expensive airport construction project in the history of mankind.
In crowded but not mad
This suburb of Hong Kong is the world's most populous island. The population density here exceeds 60 thousand people per square kilometer. Apleichau once served as a shelter for ships during frequent typhoons, and its inhabitants were engaged in fishing. The First Opium War and its aftermath led to significant changes on the political map of the region, and this suburb of Hong Kong went along with the center to the British Empire.
The main attractions of Appleichau are the magnificent parks and gardens of the island. You can arrange a promenade here on any of the embankments - the panoramic views of the metropolis are magnificent.
Beach peace
Lamma Island is a popular suburb of Hong Kong with fans of beach recreation and quiet entertainment. The main means of transportation on its streets is a bicycle, and on numerous coastal bays - rented boats. The beaches on Lamma stretch for almost fifteen kilometers, and therefore it is easy to choose a secluded or, on the contrary, a crowded place to relax here without much difficulty.
For the active and sporty on the beaches there is the opportunity to go sailing and play squash or cricket on the impeccable English lawns.
