The national money of Jordan is "Jordanian dinars" (JOD - international designation), piastres (dichrams) and fils. They relate to each other as 1: 100: 1000. A part of the dinar, called "kyrsh" (1 kyrsh is equal to 0, 001 dinars), is still in use.
In circulation, you can find both banknotes in denominations from 1 to 50 dinars, and coins. Fils have almost ceased to be found in use, although coins with denominations of 5, 10, 25 and 100 fils may come across.
The national currency of this country has undergone many changes over a long history, starting with the Syrian tetradrachm, Roman coins and ending with the Palestinian pound, which replaced the Jordanian dinar in 1950. Until 1992, all coins were minted in Arabic, and then English began to be used for them.
Currency exchange in Jordan
You can exchange currency upon arrival - at the airport (where the most unfavorable rate is), at the bank (closed on Saturdays and Fridays), or at the exchange office, as well as at the hotel, where the most favorable rate will probably be. When exchanging money, you should keep the receipt or certificate, as it will be possible to change the Jordanian dinar to the currency of your country at the end of the trip only if you have these documents. In Jordan, you can safely use plastic cards to withdraw cash from ATMs. It is possible to pay by card in almost any institution, up to a small retail store, but the bank's commission can sometimes be about 5%. Most banks accept travelers' checks, but you will have to pay a commission of 5-7 Jordanian dinars, regardless of the amount. Some shops also accept travelers checks, but again, the fees will be quite high.
Well
If the question arises, what currency to take to Jordan, then you should choose American dollars. Euro is also suitable, but it is valued much lower and is not accepted everywhere. The cost of 1 Jordanian dinar has recently been around $ 1.4.
It is almost impossible to pay somewhere in foreign currency, if only in a taxi and in shops near the airport. Russian rubles do not need to be taken to Jordan at all. You will not be able to exchange this currency anywhere, nor to pay it off.
Customs
When leaving Jordan, the amount of currency must not exceed 300 dinars per person. The import of foreign currency to Jordan of another state is not limited, although it is better to declare the amount imported (what currency was imported to Jordan, the same currency in the same amount is allowed to be exported). The import of Israeli currency into Jordan is strictly prohibited.
