The capital airport of Turkmenistan is called the Ashgabat airport named after A. Saparmurat Turkmenbashi. So it is named in honor of the first president of Turkmenistan, Sapamurat Niyazov. The airport is used by the local airline "Turkmen Airlines", the airport also cooperates with other foreign companies, among which there is Russian - S7 Airlines.

Infrastructure

The airport in Ashgabat was opened in 1994. At the moment, it has two runways that can accommodate any type of aircraft. Every year about 1.5 million passengers are served here.

Among the services provided by the airport are cafes and restaurants, shops (no duty-free), ATMs, currency exchange, pharmacy, etc.

For passengers with children, there is a mother and child room. VIP and CIP lounges are also available for passengers.

New airport

In the capital of Turkmenistan, it is planned to build a new airport, which will be called Oguzkhan. The main goal of the construction of the new airport is to improve international cooperation.

Construction began at the beginning of 2013, the completion date is announced for the summer of 2016. During the construction, various facilities will be built that will improve the quality of services provided, as well as increase the airport's capacity.

Among the planned innovations in service services, one can note an Internet cafe, playgrounds for children, a hotel, a duty-free zone, etc.

It is planned to build three terminals, two of which are passenger (regular and VIP) and one freight.

At the moment, the airport uses a small terminal 2, which, after the construction of the main terminal, will be used for servicing charter flights.

Transport

The airport is located seven kilometers from Ashgabat, and there are several ways to get to it. The easiest one is public transport. Bus number 1 runs regularly from the airport and takes passengers to the city center for less than 10 cents.

You can also go to the city by taxi, the fare will be about $ 2.
