The population of the Far East is over 7 million people.

As soon as Russian settlers appeared on the territory of the Far East (1639), they began to develop the Amur region (northern parts). Until that moment, these territories were inhabited by Daurs, Duchers, Nats, Gilyaks.

For a long time, people who were disagreeable to the government were exiled to the Far East for correctional labor. But after serving their sentences, many remained to live here, thereby increasing the demography of the region.

The national composition of the Far East is represented by:

  • Russians;
  • Ukrainians;
  • Tatars;
  • indigenous peoples (Nanais, Aleuts, Koryaks, Eskimos, Chukchi and others).

The Far East is a sparsely populated region of the Russian Federation: only 1 person lives here per 1 sq. Km. But the highest population density is characterized by the Primorsky Territory (12 people live here per 1 km2).

National language - Russian.

Large cities: Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Anadyr, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Blagoveshchensk, Magadan.

The inhabitants of the Far East profess Christianity, Islam, Buddhism.

Life span

On average, residents of the Far East live up to 65 years.

The life expectancy of the population of the Far East is 4-5, and of the indigenous peoples - 8-10 years less than the average in Russia (the fault is in the harsh climatic conditions).

In addition, the region is characterized by a shortage of polyclinics, hospitals, necessary equipment and highly qualified medical personnel.

The main causes of death of the population are cancer and diseases of the circulatory system, external causes (trauma, suicide, drowning, alcohol poisoning).

Traditions and customs of the inhabitants of the Far East

The indigenous peoples of the Far East managed to preserve their culture and way of life. But, despite the fact that today's youth forgets age-old traditions and customs, the older generation remembers and honors them.

A common form of belief of the indigenous peoples of the Far East is shamanism and family-clan cult (for example, the cult of the bear is a clan cult among the Evens and Nivkhs).

State policy helps to preserve the culture of the indigenous peoples of the region. For example, the Festival of Evenk culture “Bakaldyn” is held here, the participants of which show everyone their national creativity - they sing, dance, build chums, organize competitions for cooking national cuisine.

Of interest is the “Living Traditions” craft festival, where everyone can see how craftsmen make items that the ancestors of the small peoples of the Far East used in everyday life, hunting, and during their holidays. In addition, everyone will have the opportunity to get basic skills in wood carving or jewelry making.

The Far East is a remote region of Russia, but it will appeal to fans of ecological tourism and extreme sports, romantics, hunters and fishermen.
