Description of the attraction

The Konstantin-Eleninskaya Church is one of the most beautiful cult sights on the territory of Abakan. The temple was founded in 1988 and its construction lasted nine years. The church was built with funds donated by ordinary citizens, entrepreneurs, representatives of various enterprises and organizations.

For visitors, the church in the name of Saints Equal to the Apostles Helena and Constantine was opened on the eve of the new 2008 year. The domed crosses on the church under construction were consecrated in August 2005. In August 2006, nine bells made at a foundry in Voronezh were consecrated in the courtyard of the church. The largest bell weighs 1,200 kg and the smallest 7 kg. The relics of the holy martyrs Andronicus, Prov and Tarakh were laid under the foundation of the altar part of the church.

The Constantine-Eleninsky temple is unique. Due to its architectural features, many of the work was done by hand. It is a brick church with decor eclectically combining elements of pre-Petrine architecture. Above the western vestibule and the side porches, you can see a large three-apse one-domed quadrangle with a hipped bell tower.

The entire five-tiered iconostasis of the church is decorated with a frame made of gold leaf, which was made in April 2010 at the Volgodonsk plant. In decorating the mosaic floor, the craftsmen used the image of a two-headed Byzantine eagle. The temple is illuminated by graceful three-tiered and five-tiered chandeliers.

Mosaic icons of the Constantine-Eleninsky Church are the first and so far the only mosaic icons in the Abakan-Kyzyl diocese. Eight icons, which are about 4 m high, are placed under the dome of the church. These are the faces of Saints Equal to the Apostles Helena and Constantine, the Mother of God, Jesus Christ, Nicholas the Wonderworker, George the Victorious, the Great Martyr Catherine, St. Euphrosyne and St. Innocent of Moscow. Mosaic icons made by Krasnoyarsk specialists are located above each entrance to the church.
