Description of the attraction
Picturesque Greek Rhodes is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Magnificent natural landscapes, gentle warm sea, rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as an abundance of interesting sights attract a huge number of travelers to the island every year.
In the city of Rhodes (the capital of the island), just 3 km from the center, there is the magnificent Rodini Park - the oldest landscape park in the world and one of the main attractions of the island. Accurate data on the time of the foundation of the park have not been found, but it is known that this beautiful park was very popular with the Romans (perhaps they were its founders), who, moreover, led a water supply through it. Remains of Roman aqueducts can still be seen in the park. During the Middle Ages, Rodini Park was popular among the Knights Hospitallers. The central part of the park was improved during the reign of the Italians in Rhodes.
Rodini Park is famous for its coolness, so relevant in the hot summer period, and a cozy atmosphere of peace and quiet. An abundance of trees (cypresses, pines, etc.), small lakes with swans and lilies, a waterfall, wooden bridges, narrow paths along which peacocks walk slowly, and many turtles, create a special flavor and a feeling of complete unity with nature. Children will surely love the mini-zoo and the excellent playground.
In the park, about 10 minutes walk from the entrance along the canal, you can see an ancient tomb, which is considered the tomb of the Ptolemies and dates back to the Hellenistic period. The ancient structure is carved into the rock and decorated with semi-columns in the Doric style.
