Description of the attraction
Panjshanbe Bazaar in Khujand is one of the brightest and most traditional places in the city. The name Panjshanbe translates as "Thursday", the trading day of one of the largest markets in the country gave the name to the entire complex. The market is located in the very center of Khujand, next to one of the main attractions - the Sheikh Muslikhiddin Mosque. The large main pavilion is surrounded by numerous kiosks, stalls and shops with a variety of goods. The market is the largest in the district; not only city dwellers shop here, but also the population of the surrounding villages.
The architecture and decoration of the Panjshanbe market are of historical and cultural value. The construction of the main trading hall was completed in 1964. The building is an example of the classicism of the Stalin era. The interior uses elements typical of the Eastern and Soviet styles - domes, arches and columns, sculptural compositions, mosaics and paintings.
The market is two-storied; the pavilion on the first floor sells vegetables, fruits, bread, meat, nuts and spices. The galleries on the second floor have numerous shops and kiosks selling clothes, household items, household appliances and electronics.
Panjshanbe Bazaar is an integral part of the city's atmosphere, and a visit to it will leave a vivid and unforgettable experience.
