Description of the attraction

Varna Aquarium is an integral part of the Institute of Aquaculture and Fisheries. The building itself was built according to the idea of Tsar Ferdinand in 1912. The architectural solution attracts attention with the original main facade of the building, which is decorated with bas-reliefs depicting the inhabitants of the underwater world.

The aquarium was opened to visitors in 1932.

The central hall of the aquarium impresses with a collection of sea and river inhabitants, each of which is represented in its natural conditions. Several adjacent halls unite expositions representing the flora, fauna and specific features of the Black Sea in particular, as well as other seas belonging to the World Ocean.

Two more halls represent prepared representatives of the underwater world, where one can get acquainted with information on the vital activity and migration of fish, the peculiarities of the Black Sea coast region.

In addition, in the Varna aquarium, you can see various types of shells, algae, mussels and microorganisms.

The aquarium has a library containing more than 30 thousand specialized and scientific publications, periodicals, textbooks devoted to hydrochemistry, marine biology, oceanography, fisheries, ichthyology, aquaristics and the fishing industry in general.

This aquarium in Varna allows you to observe the behavior of interesting inhabitants of the Black Sea. Here you can see not only different types of fish, but also many mysterious inhabitants of the seabed: octopuses, molluscs and jellyfish.
