Description of the attraction

In 2001, the huge modern art complex Museum Quarter opened in Vienna, located in the restored building of the royal stables. In the 1980s, the buildings underwent a major redesign under the leadership of Lorids and Manfred Ortner.

It houses the Museum of Art History, the Leopold Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Ludwig Foundation. The Leopold Museum houses a collection of contemporary Austrian fine art. There are about 5,000 paintings by such masters as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Ferdinand Waldmüller, Friedrich Gauermann. The collection has been collected over several decades by the Viennese professor Rudolf Leopold.

The Ludwig Foundation's Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the largest contemporary art galleries in central Europe, ranging from American Pop Art and Cubism to Expressionism and Viennese Actionism.

The territory of the museum complex also houses the Dance Quarter - the international center for dance art, the Vienna Architectural Center, the Ecology Center, the Architectural Museum, the Tobacco Museum, the Children's Museum, as well as the "21st Quarter", which contains a large number of alternative art trends, and much other. It hosts festivals such as the Vienna Holiday Weeks and the annual Summer Festival, the renowned Vienna Film Festival and the Dance Arts Festival.
