Description of the attraction

St. Anne's Church is located in the small resort of Bad Tatzsmandorf, on the territory of its large district of Jormansdorf. It is a typical example of a rural religious building common in Burgenland, an Austrian federal border state located on the very Hungarian border.

This sacred building was erected in the XIV century, but over the centuries it was greatly rebuilt and increased in size several times. The most ambitious work was carried out in the 17th century, when a modern, rather large building, painted beige and covered with a red tile roof, grew out of a small medieval chapel. The western part of the temple was added only in 1648, and 200 years later the church underwent another major reconstruction. The temple is distinguished by relatively small windows.

The interior design of the church is mainly in the Baroque style. It consists of a single nave and elaborate vaulted ceilings, completed in 1628. The most ancient detail of the interior of the temple is the altarpiece depicting the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It was completed in 1700 or a little later.

The church of St. Anne does not have a detached bell tower, but in 1648 a special superstructure, like a belfry, was built on the roof, serving as a bell tower. It is located directly above the main entrance to the church and is its only decoration, since the facade of the temple is quite modest.

In 2012, the turret was decorated with a new dial, at the same time a small bell was cast, which beats every 15 minutes. However, the main, large bell, cast back in 1678, is also active in the bell tower.

St. Anne's Church is considered a monument of the history and architecture of Austria and is protected by law.
