Description of the attraction

The Vincent Van Gogh Museum is the most visited museum in the Netherlands. More than one and a half million people come to see the paintings of the famous artist and his contemporaries a year.

The museum is located on the Museum Square, next to the State and City Museums. The building was built in 1973 specifically to house Van Gogh's work. On the ground floor there is an introductory exposition, a cafe and a shop. The second shows the works of Van Gogh in chronological order. The exposition of the third floor tells about the process of restoration of paintings, and small changeable exhibitions are also located here. The fourth floor is dedicated to the works of Van Gogh's contemporaries, one way or another connected with him and his work. In 1999, an additional wing of the museum was opened, designed by Kisho Kurokawa, and large exhibitions are held here. In total, the museum's collection contains 200 paintings by Van Gogh, 400 drawings and more than 700 of his letters - this is the most complete collection in the world. Here are the most famous works of the artist: "Sunflowers", "Potato Eaters", "Bedroom in Arles", "Irises", self-portraits.

Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous Dutch painters. His style is defined as post-impressionism. His work was not appreciated by the public during his lifetime, however, after his tragic death, the paintings gained popularity. Today, Vag Gog's paintings are among the most expensive in the world.

The museum has special programs for children, which, in a playful way, introduce young visitors to the artist's work.
