Description of the attraction

One of the iconic sights of the city of Omsk is the amazing Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. The temple has an interesting history. In 1975, in accordance with the new general plan, the city "stepped over" the Irtysh River and gradually began to build up its left bank. In the summer of 1990, a cross was erected on the site of the future temple, after which construction began. This project was carried out by a team of authors headed by A. Karimov, the architect was A. Slinkin. V. Kokorin supervised the construction. As a result, the temple has become a real pearl of the Left Bank.

Erected to commemorate the 2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ, the cathedral is clearly visible from almost anywhere in the city, including the right bank of the Irtysh River. In December 1997, the first divine service was held in the church. The solemn ceremony of consecration of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ took place on July 4, 1999.

The bell tower of the cathedral is decorated with a shining bell "Leonidas". So it was named in honor of the local governor L. K. Polezhaev. It was he who played an important role in the construction of the cathedral and the restoration of other city churches. The height of the graceful cathedral bell tower is about 42 m. Now the sounding of the church bell on the left bank pleases all residents.

The right side-altar of the cathedral was consecrated in the name of the icon of the Mother of God of Kaluga, the left - in honor of the new martyrs and confessors of Russia, and the lower church - in the name of the Prophet John the Baptist.

At the cathedral, there is a general educational Orthodox gymnasium, as well as an adult and children's Sunday school, a sisterhood in honor of Saints Damian and Cosmas. Divine services in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ are held daily.
