Mozyr Castle

Description of the attraction

Mozyr Castle was reconstructed for the 850th anniversary of the city on a historical site - Zamkovaya Gora. For the first time, the castle in Mozyr was built on the site of a wooden tower in the 15th century. At this time, the Grand Duke Zhigimont I sold Mozyr to Albrecht Gashtold “for 1500 kopecks of groschen …”.

The impregnable fortresses of the castle withstood three attacks in 1497, 1521, 1534. Behind the fortress walls and three defensive towers, a palace, residential and utility buildings, a well, necessary for a siege, and the Church of the Holy Savior were hidden.

The years passed. The population of the Mozyr Castle grew, as did its prosperity. In 1576, it became necessary to expand the territory of the castle. Construction began to boil under the leadership of Mikhail Narbut. The Bird Tower and the Old Market Tower have been added. Old residents continued to call the new towers "new castle" and the old territory "old castle". These names were fixed, despite the fact that the division was conditional - the entire territory of the Mozyr Castle was surrounded by a single wall.

Today the reconstructed Mozyr Castle is not only an interesting tourist attraction. It became the center of national culture. Festivals of ethnic and medieval music are held here, young people come to the festivals of reconstruction. There are battles again - bearded warriors in chain mail and armor clink their swords against enemy swords. Only today the swords are not sharpened, and the duels are extremely friendly in nature.

Fairs of folk craftsmen and craftsmen are held in the castle, who bring here, as in the Middle Ages, their wonderful goods that keep the warmth of hands and love of hearts. Folk crafts and arts are reviving, interest in national history is growing.
