Description of the attraction
The Minsk Zoo was opened on August 9, 1984 and was first called the Zoo Botanical Garden of the Minsk Automobile Plant. It is located in the south-west of Minsk in the floodplain of the Svisloch River. The zoo was created on the initiative of the enthusiast naturalist, writer, veteran of MAZ Fyodor Idelevich Revzin and existed at the expense of financing the plant.
During the years of perestroika, difficult times came for MAZ, the plant refused to finance the zoo. The whole country was worried about the fate of animals left without a livelihood. The zoo changed hands somewhat from hand to hand of various commercial firms. It was only in 1997 that it received government funding.
Now the zoo is developing intensively. A dolphinarium, a stone castle for lions, a monkey house is being built on its territory. Winter enclosures have been built for all animals. At the moment, more than 2, 5 thousand animals live in the zoo, their number is constantly growing both due to the acquisition of new interesting species, and due to the birth of cubs. The zoo has a variety of departments: birds, vivarium, ungulates, carnivorous mammals, primates, reptiles.
Breeding animals in captivity is an excellent indicator of a zoo's well-being. A real "baby boom" has been observed in the Minsk Zoo lately. Visitors can see little bison, monkeys, tiger cubs, goats, lambs, chicks and other cubs.
Despite the difficult times experienced by the zoo, he was constantly engaged in the rescue of wild animals. The very first inhabitant, from which the zoo began, was the stork Zhurka, rescued from a puddle of fuel oil. Even Fabulous Doom has its own touching story of salvation. It was uprooted during the redevelopment of the city and transported to the Zoo by its first director F. I. Revzin.
The modern territory of the zoo is landscaped. It is convenient for animals, adults and children alike. All the inhabitants of the zoo are clearly visible; they live in spacious cages and aviaries with a well-thought-out security system. The zoo has recreation areas, food points, toilets.
The zoo organizes many children's parties, excursions, educational and interesting lectures. The zoo employees are doing a great deal of scientific and environmental work.
