Description of the attraction
Izhevsk is rightfully considered the arms capital and the birthplace of weapons known throughout the world. The man who glorified the city, the legend of the twentieth century - Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov. Timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the legendary designer on November 4, 2004, a museum and exhibition complex of small arms was opened on Borodin Street.
The unique structure created by a group of architects headed by P. Fomin was built for about five years at the expense of the mayor's offices of Izhevsk and Moscow. The opening of the museum was attended by the legendary man himself - the winner of the Lenin and State Prizes, twice the hero of socialist labor, the Knight of the Order of St. Andrew the Primordial, the honorary citizen of Russia M. T. Kalashnikov. A sculpture of the same name created by the Moscow sculptor Vladimir Kurochkin into the recess at the entrance to the complex.
The museum and exhibition complex presents all small arms for the two-hundred-year history of Izhevsk, from an infantry flint gun to the modern Abakan AN-94 assault rifle. Mannequins dressed in uniforms from that time stand next to the exhibits. In the red corner there is a machine gun known anywhere in the world - AK. The uniqueness of the museum lies in the showroom, which includes a modern shooting range with firearms, pneumatic and crossbow weapons, where you can "test" various samples of historical and modern weapons.
The Museum and Exhibition Complex of Small Arms is interesting and attractive both from a historical point of view and from a general educational point of view, it is aimed at a wide audience and is the main attraction of Izhevsk.
