Description of the attraction
Vasa is the only 17th century ship in the world that has survived to this day. The pride of the Swedish navy, the Vasa ship was created magnificent and pretentious, with a huge amount of jewelry and gold, so an inaccurate calculation led to the fact that it capsized and sank in Stockholm harbor in 1628, during its maiden voyage.
After several years of preparatory work, Vasa was recovered from the seabed on April 24, 1961. With more than 95 percent of the original structural elements preserved, as well as hundreds of carved sculptures, the Vasa ship is a unique artistic value and one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the world. The ship is on display in a purpose-built museum, which also features nine related exhibitions, a wide range of merchandise store and an upscale restaurant.
