Description of the attraction
The Regional Museum of Natural History, housed in a renowned medieval castle in Saint-Pierre in Italy's Val d'Aosta region, combines history, architecture and science. Housed in nine exhibition halls, its expositions introduce visitors to the nature of this unique region - it is the perfect start for those who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the mountain valleys and secluded villages of Val d'Aosta. Over the years, the museum has gained fame at the national and international levels, which is confirmed by the constant influx of tourists both from other parts of Italy and from abroad, as well as the constant scientific cooperation with leading museums and universities in the world.
The museum's exhibits were collected in botanical, zoological and mineral-petrographic collections, which were donated to him in the framework of various scientific campaigns, and were also leased from institutes and individuals. Since 1999, the museum has been publishing its own publication - "Monographs", dedicated to scientific works on the study of the region. It was within the framework of the expeditions initiated by the museum that ungulates, bats, lepidopterans and the Val d'Aosta aviafauna were studied, floristic studies of vascular plants and lichens were carried out, and limnological and hydrogeological studies were organized. Recently, the building of the museum itself has been restored, and its collections have been modernized.
