Description of the attraction
Manila City Hall is one of the main attractions of the capital of the Philippines. The building, with its hexagonal tower with three lined dials on the facades, received many unfavorable responses in its early years due to its austere architectural design, lack of entrances and placement of the clock tower. The original layout of the building was rejected because it resembled a coffin or, according to another version, a shield of the Knightly Order of the Templars. Interestingly, most critics today praise the design of the City Hall, which once caused so much criticism.
The building is located in the center of Manila's tourist area, which is also home to major government offices and other city attractions. South of the City Hall are the National Museum, the Museum of the Philippine People and the Department of Tourism. Risal Park, the largest city park in the country, is located nearby. And very close to the walls of the old historical district of Manila - Intramuros.
The Clock Tower of the City Hall has become a kind of symbol of Manila. At night, it is illuminated by floodlights and external lighting and becomes visible from many parts of the city. Every hour the bell rings three times and then a melody is played. Today, the Clock Tower is considered the largest in the Philippines.
The City Hall houses the offices of government agencies and the administration of Manila. Public access is open from Monday to Friday.
