Description of the attraction

The house-museum of the famous writer Lesya Ukrainka is located in the small village of Kolodyazhny in the Kovel district of the Volyn region. It was here, among the lush grasses of picturesque nature, that such a talented poetess as Larisa Kosach, also known under the pseudonym L. Ukrainka, spent her childhood and youth.

The house-museum was founded in 1949 on the territory of the Kosach family estate, where the writer lived from 1882 to 1897. P. Kosach acquired this plot of land and the estate in 1879, after which the whole Kosach family moved here for permanent residence in May 1882. They lived in a house they called "great." Some time later, in 1890, a special Lesin "white" house was erected in the estate of P. Kosach, and in 1896 the so-called parental "gray" house was built. Despite the constant long departures, Lesya considered Kolodyazhnoe her home. Because it was here, under the influence of the legends of the Volyn region, which her mother, the writer Olga Kosach (Olena Pchilka), told her, and the poetic talent of Lesya Ukrainka, who later became one of the most famous Ukrainian poetesses, was formed. Living in this region, L. Ukrainka wrote about 80 works.

To date, the museum exhibits memorial items of L. Ukrainka and her family, lifetime editions of the writer herself and her mother Olena Pchilka, various photographs, household items and ethnography of Volyn of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as reproduced fragments of the interior of the study and rural at home. The exposition of the museum consists of several sections: "The Volyn paths of Lesya Ukrainka", "Kolodyazhnoe - the cradle of Lesya's talent", "Through all life - to the" Forest song "," History of the museum. The tragedy of the Kosach family”.
