Description of the attraction

The Manchester Art Gallery opened in 1924 and now occupies three buildings in the city center. The oldest building of the gallery was designed by the famous British architect Charles Barry. At the end of the 20th century, a complete reconstruction of the building was carried out according to the project of M. Hopkins. In 2002 it was reopened to the public.

The main part of the gallery's collection is the work of British artists. The gallery is proud of its collection of Pre-Raphaelite and Thomas Gainsborough paintings. There are also works by French Impressionists, Dutch, Flemish and Italian artists. A significant place in the gallery is occupied by works related to Manchester.

In addition to paintings, the halls display collections of furniture and decorative items made of silver and glass.

The gallery belongs to the city and is free to enter.
