Description of the attraction
The only Watermelon Museum in Russia was opened in 2006 in the city of Kamyzyak, Astrakhan Region. The museum displays all varieties of the famous Astrakhan watermelons.
The central composition of the museum is bright replicas of melons and gourds. On the walls, there is scientific material characterizing the watermelon as an object of scientific research and the result of centuries of human creative activity. Here you can also learn about the origin of melon growing on the Lower Volga, where watermelons began to appear in the 13th century and from where they were exported to the center of Russia. There are interesting historical documents testifying to the "extraordinary fruit from Astrakhan", which was supplied to the tsar's table and was famous among travelers who visited the Lower Volga.
There is a pharmaceutical garden with medicinal herbs, where visitors are offered healing teas, and after the end of the museum tour, they are treated to juicy sweet watermelons.
