Description of the attraction

Schmiding Zoo was originally the largest bird park in Austria. It opened in 1982 and specialized in exotic bird species. Over the past few years, the concept of a modern zoo has changed. Various mammals and reptiles were brought here from all over the world.

The zoo is located on an area of 16 hectares of open space and 1600 square meters of enclosed enclosures. A 4 km long pedestrian road was created for visitors, allowing them to make a fascinating journey into the animal world, to see with their own eyes the daily life of animals from different geographic regions.

The park has three distinct zones: the rainforest, the African savannah and the bird kingdom.

In the rainforest, the visitor finds himself in a fascinating world. First, the road runs through dense jungle with huge trees, where various species of birds roam freely. Monkeys jump on branches directly over the heads of visitors. The path leads past crocodiles and turtles to the lagoon, where guests can see sloths, snakes and lizards.

The African savannah is home to giraffes, antelopes, rhinos, zebras and many others. Visitors can watch and interact with the giraffe up close by climbing onto a five-meter platform.

The zoo is justly proud of its collection of birds. The small valley is surrounded by a net, which creates a natural habitat for the birds. Here you can see griffins, vultures, steppe eagle, red and black kites, condor and other birds of prey.
